For a while now, I've been reading a lot and learning about rhino horn trafficking. This practice mixed of ignorance and greed strongly impacts the lives of the people involved in a very complex way.
Rangers not only have to fight poachers, but also corruption and threats, with few resources and low salaries. Rhino poaching, despite having fallen in recent years, has resulted in only 5000 black rhinos alive in the wild and only TWO northern white rhinos alive in the world today.
Scientists have managed to collect embryos from the last two rhinos and there is hope that they can be artificially fertilized, allowing new rhinos to be born. Either way, it is sad to see extinction happening right in front of our eyes and we are the ones making it.
I would like to thank all those who protect biodiversity and the natural heritage.
